Bringing the blog up to date
So long time no talk. Lately I haven't felt like I really had that much (positive) to say and my mother always told me if I didn't have anything positive to say not to say anything at all. Actually I don't think my mom ever said that as much as it was just sort of a personal rule I created for myself. Anyways, I didn't feel like I had much to say lately but Justin Feeche threatened me with bodily harm in the form of KC "Riotstarter" McKnight so I figured I'd better update before KC showed up and got us kicked out of my dorm or something.
Two nights ago, Dangers, the mighty Kingfish and I headed to Roseboro for ACPW. ACPW trips have generally produced some of the most fun I've had all year so I was glad to get there and find out it was Corey Edsel & Brandon Maretti vs. Tito Rain & KC McKnight. Maretti was the guy in the match I was least familiar with, other than just knowing he did a "shooter" gimmick and wrestled like someone who had wrestled in high school and been half-way decent. He was a little raw but the match overall was very sharp. Tito impressed me as a babyface, up to this point I had mainly seen him work heel. Another thing that impressed me was how happy Tito & KC both were to be working with us.
No ego, no bullshit and they respected what we brought to the table. Which is getting more and more rare to find in guys these days.
Match went very well I think, other than 2/6th of the people involved (counting myself and the ref) almost dying. Tito got Corey up for the big slam and lost his footing, leading to one of the prettiest Snow plows I've ever seen that caused me and KC both to think Corey was dead. Then for the finish, Maretti/Corey hit KC with the german suplex/lariat combo that looked vicious and head droppy. Luckily everyone survived. Overall I felt it was a very solid southern-style tag match. The ACPW locker room is ultiamtely a great place, I really love hanging out with KC, Tito, Stro, Tre, Chuck King and the rest of the gang.

A couple of weeks ago was some more of the most fun I've had all year working with Donnie Dollars against Otto Schwanz. If you've never worked with Otto (if you don't suck, 'cause if you suck, he'll likely kill you) I recommend it at least once, he's a blast once through the curtain. Also was part of a great piece of dickish heel business with Mikael Yamaha. It was weird, the CWF locker room at the last CSA was a totally different atmosphere than it has been in recent months. It felt more like the CWF of old, with everyone seeming in a good mood and there to ultimately have fun. It was truly a breath of welcomed air. We have some great stuff planned for the Halloween show this Saturday and I urge everyone in the area to check it out.
Then there was the day the rain came.

Every year RCW does an event as part of the Gibsonville Fall Festival and this year, it rained.
And rained.
But the people stayed. In fact they kept coming. 100+ people were standing out in the rain waiting to see some rasslin' so we held a meeting inside the Gibsonville town hall and it was unanimously decided to do the show with the 12 wrestlers who had in fact braved the elements to be there with only Mikael "I'm a big girl who can't bump in the rain" Yamaha obstaining. I bet if Johnny Ace had been there, he would've worked.
Actually, I love Yamaha and was shocked that that many of the boys DID in fact say screw it and wrestled anyway. I was very proud of my crew that day. So in the interest of getting everybody in and out, the awesome six match card that had been previously formatted (including the first-ever Brass Munkey vs. Ultra Dragon singles match) was thrown out in favor of going ahead with the scheduled RCW Title match with KC McKnight defending versus Corey Edsel and the remaining 10 pairing off for a ten-man elimination tag. I was ultimately very pleased with how the afternoon went and a gigantic fuck you to the dude in the pink who wanted to pick a fight with me and KC. One of these days I'm going to just let KC whoop somebody's ass, becuase this is the second time in a row he almost had to, LOL.
I think a promotion has got absolutely nothing if they don't stand by their wrestlers. But for the record, I love that about him. I love anyone who feels deeply that pro wrestling and pro wrestlers should be respected. I wish I had the balls to get in the face of marks who think they deserve more respect than they give us and tell them what I really think. But ultimately (solely out of professional respect to Jeff & Danny and Tre) all those geeks ever get is an extremely watered down version of the verbal thrashing they deserve. I absolutely stand by the decision for KC McKnight to carry the RCW Title and wish we had more wrestlers who weren't afraid to remind the fans that we're the wrestlers and they aren't.
While I'm already on the soapbox, other things that piss me off:
-Guys (or girls for that matter) solely concerned with how they look and not concerned with how the other person looks.
-Managers who can't manage.
-EDIT, 10/26/05, 2:58 P.M.: Ya know, it ain't even worth mentioning. All the petty bickering is a waste of time and breath.
-People in general who take this shit too seriously.
-People who don't take it seriously enough.
-Things that come off visibly, obviously scripted or choreographed.
-People who lose their heart.
-People who change.
I hate change. Anyone who knows me knows that. But I hate change now more than ever. I am a real creature of habit and once I get accustomed to something being a certain way, I generally like it that way. There are some exceptions, as some things I think are due for a change.
In fact some changes I would welcome. I would love for the Monday Night Raw set to get an overhaul, for example, as it has looked more or less the same since 1997 and I am tired of it. I would love for Gemini Kid & Randy Hedrick & Brad Stutts to be positioned as the CWF commentary team, because I think that'd be an excellent three-man team and would allow Grant more time to concentrate on production, which he should be doing anyway. That's another change, I can't wait for our resident A/V guy to take over producing the show. Another change, I wish promotions not-named-ROH would get an overhaul creatively and place emphasis on telling stories with some depth rather than arbitrary sequences of matches that tell overly simplistic stories. For my money, of the things wrong with wrestling today, that is one of the biggest things, no depth.
I felt the Garry Stevens/Ric Converse scenario that played out in CWF this past spring was the best story we've told in a long, long time with an awesome injury angle and a fantastic hero's return and everything. But I think 95% of the wrestling angles being perpetrated these days lack that kind of depth and I think wrestling consumers over all are starved for a story with some depth. Where's Randy Savage crushing Rick Steamboat's throat with the ringbell? Where's Raven coming back 15 years later to fuck with Tommy Dreamer because Dreamer was a dick to him at summer camp and he blames Dreamer for making him a social outcast?
If Randy Savage crushed Rick Steamboat's throat with the ring bell today, they'd have a match at the PPV in two weeks and then 8-12 weeks later be teaming up against Snitsky & Edge solely in the interest of popping a rating, like nothing ever happened.
But overall, I really hate change. I really hate when people change especially. I hate not feeling comfortable around people who I used to really feel like family with. I hate not being able to rely on people and things that I used to. I think some would easily dismiss it as a part of life, but it doesn't come that easy for me. Once I get accustomed to something being that way, I really feel comfortable there and particularly when the change comes seemingly out of nowhere, I genuinely hate that more than anything. Is it just me or is 98% of the change in the world a change for the negative? Maybe if some more things changed for the better, change in general would be easier to take. Nevertheless, I think I shall make that a personal goal of sorts for myself. I think it'd be in my best interests to get more accustomed to and better suited to change, 'cause now more than ever nothing ever stays the same.
